For individuals, the amount of tax which can be deferred is up to $1 million. Corporations can defer up to $10 million. These limits were selected to provide benefits to small businesses which report income through pass-through entities such as partnerships or S-corporations.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"has_ae_slider elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-6b339ed4 blue-box elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default ae-bg-gallery-type-default\" data-id=\"6b339ed4\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;background_background&quot;:&quot;classic&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-no\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"has_ae_slider elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-4057fafe ae-bg-gallery-type-default\" data-id=\"4057fafe\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-57bb976a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"57bb976a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The extension is updated for both <em>filing the return and the<\/em> <em>payment<\/em>.\u00a0 All taxpayers now are allowed to file their return or a valid extension by July 15, 2020. 1065 (Partnership) and 1120S (S-corporation) returns typically have no federal income tax associated with them, hence no extension of time to make a payment.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"has_ae_slider elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-6cd99205 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default ae-bg-gallery-type-default\" data-id=\"6cd99205\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"has_ae_slider elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-5e1d21d0 ae-bg-gallery-type-default\" data-id=\"5e1d21d0\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1f1823bd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1f1823bd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h5><strong>Additional Guidance for CWA Tax Clients: <\/strong><\/h5><p>1120S (S-corporation) and 1065 (Partnership) tax returns have already been extended to meet the March 15 deadline.\u00a0 The extension deadline for these returns is September 15. The CWA Tax Department is still working toward extending all tax returns by the original due date of April 15, in order to better serve our clients.\u00a0<\/p><ul><li>CWA <em>will extend your <strong>personal<\/strong> tax return(s) for you by April 15<\/em>, extending your return deadline until October 15, 2020.<\/li><li>If you operate as an 1120, we are extending those returns until October 15, 2020.<\/li><li>If you have a 1041 trust return, we are extending those returns until September 15, 2020.<\/li><\/ul><p>Payments due for all three of these returns are extended to July 15, 2020.<\/p><p>In the next week your planning team will also communicate how much they estimate you will owe with your extension.<\/p><p>Those who owe less than $1 million can defer payment until July 15, 2020.\u00a0 If you need guidance on if you should pay now or later, please reach out to your planning team for personal advice.<\/p><p><em>Please be advised<\/em><strong>,<\/strong> if you do not pay your tax bill in full by July 15, 2020, the IRS will charge penalties and interest on any outstanding balance.<\/p><p>If you anticipate being in a refund situation, please <a href=\"https:\/\/cainwatters.suralink.com\/\">upload all your tax information to our secure portal<\/a> as soon as you can.\u00a0 If you are a CWA accounting client and your December 31, 2019, books have yet to be finalized, please upload any missing information or reach out to your CWA accountant.<\/p><p>If you are an owner or investor in a partnership or an S-corporation those returns must be filed first before you can file your personal tax return.<\/p><p>Most states have been silent as to an extension on state income taxes but we feel that this will change in the coming days.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aicpa.org\/content\/dam\/aicpa\/advocacy\/tax\/downloadabledocuments\/coronavirus-state-filing-relief.pdf\">Some have already offered guidance<\/a> and come out and said they will give 60-day extensions and some say they will give the same as what the Federal Government gives.\u00a0 We will continue to monitor this and update as we know.\u00a0<\/p><p>We will continue to follow these developments and will provide information on these issues as they are clarified.
