Last time we talked through the basics, what an IPO is, why companies go public, and what investors should watch for before getting caught up in the buzz. Since then, the IPO market has started showing signs of life again. More companies are testing the waters, and investors are trying to figure out if this is just a short window or the start of a broader comeback.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So today,\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0following up with\u00a0what&#8217;s\u00a0going on,\u00a0what&#8217;s\u00a0driving the activity, and what investors should keep in mind as everything starts picking back up.\u00a0Let&#8217;s\u00a0get into it.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Happy July, Hunter.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0right. Happy\u00a0end\u00a0of World\u00a0Cup. Sad end of World Cup. It was fun. It was so much fun. It was so much fun, and listeners\u00a0yeah, I got caught up in the frenzy. My boys did. That was, like, the first time &#8211;\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a015 to 20, and in United States time zones, all of it. Man, I got caught up. What about y&#8217;all?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Absolutely. The girls were into it about 30% of the time. They were into the halftime show of the final game 100% of the time. But yes, we had fun with it. In fact, the twins capped off the World Cup with a soccer camp this week, and on Sunday they were practicing flopping. Oh.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0what they learned from the World Cup is flopping.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0good.\u00a0Yeah. And\u00a0the,\u00a0dance, the halftime dance, right?\u00a0Yeah, 100%.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Of course,\u00a0in the midst of\u00a0the World Cup,\u00a0you&#8217;ve\u00a0got a bunch of testosterone-fueled boys sitting around saying, &#8220;I could totally make a PK.&#8221; Totally. Like, &#8220;These guys are missing PKs. I could totally do it.&#8221;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So,\u00a0my question for you, Judson, before we go into some stats very quickly. What is more likely, all right? You get 10 shots at the goal, and Emi Martinez from Argentina is in goal, and you\u00a0have to\u00a0score one of them. Or you are the goalie, and Mbappe is shooting 10, and you\u00a0have to\u00a0stop one of them.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Stopping one of them is more likely to me than&#8230; and because it would be\u00a0luck. Like my body would happen to just be in the way of that one kick. You would just fall\u00a0over\u00a0and Mbappe&#8217;s kick would hit you in the belly? I\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0think that set up the way that those PKs are set up,\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0not happening.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I think that\u00a0he&#8217;s\u00a0kind of a\u00a0smaller\u00a0dude.\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0kind of a\u00a0bigger\u00a0dude. I think I would just intimidate the hell out of\u00a0him\u00a0and he would kick it over the crossbar. 100%.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0what I\u00a0think\u00a0too.\u00a0Yeah.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Well, unlike us, 24% of American men say that they\u00a0definitely would\u00a0score a PK in a World Cup match. And, like this\u00a0isn&#8217;t\u00a0just like a PK against like\u00a010 you\u00a0players. In a World Cup match. This is in a World Cup match.\u00a0Yeah. I think\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0quite hilarious. 25% of men were drinking while they answered that question.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0right. They were Scots, the Tartan Army. If you take 18 to 44-year-old males who vote Republican, it is 60%.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0astounding. Does it show the other side of that?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yes.\u00a0So\u00a0actually,\u00a0independents\u00a0are lower than Democrats. Hmm. But Democrats are at 28%, independents are at 26. Okay, wait. 28% to 60%? 28 to 60%.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0unbelievable. 60% of&#8230; Goodness gracious. I also am very astounded, all 45 and older women\u00a0basically are\u00a0the same, and they, 8% of them think they could score a PK. Okay.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I mean, Are there 8% of former women players? Is this why? Maybe. I think this &#8211; everybody on this should be zero. I totally agree. 24% is too high. 60% is ludicrous. The question is, Judson, if there was no goalie, could you just kick it in? Yes. Okay. Nobody in front of me, no goalie, no team standing making the line, no\u00a0dude\u00a0laying on the ground behind their feet. Yes.\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0proud of you. Okay,\u00a0let&#8217;s\u00a0do IPOs. How many out of 10? I\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0know. 10 out of 10 if\u00a0nobody&#8217;s\u00a0there for me. Yeah, I mean, I\u00a0probably\u00a0&#8211; I\u00a0think I could do that. The\u00a0goal&#8217;s\u00a0pretty large.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Anyway, all right,\u00a0let&#8217;s\u00a0do IPOs. Okay. We had an IPO this summer. Indeed.\u00a0So,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0been a little over a month now. It was June 12th that SpaceX\u00a0IPO&#8217;d. Take us through what happened that day and what happened. Yeah, I mean,\u00a0I think this\u00a0is an opportunity for us to give us our flowers. We said it was\u00a0going to\u00a0be volatile, and if you really wanted to buy it, you could\u00a0probably buy\u00a0it post-IPO for the share price, and that indeed was the case.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But\u00a0yeah, June 12th, as you mentioned the official number did come out at\u00a0$1.77 trillion, $135 a share, raised\u00a0$75 billion. None of\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0necessarily been spent yet publicly.\u00a0We&#8217;ll\u00a0get to\u00a0earnings here in a little while, at which we might find out some of that.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It didn&#8217;t actually open, though, at $135.\u00a0On the exchange, it opened $150\u00a0and\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0that sort of like pre-IPO pop that happens. It closed that day at $160.95.\u00a0So\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0feeling good. 19% gain.\u00a0Yeah.\u00a0You&#8217;re\u00a0like, &#8220;Okay, here we go.&#8221; For\u00a0those, the volume,\u00a0Judson,\u00a0was astounding. 500 million shares moved on day one. Pretty crazy,\u00a0dude. Okay.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So, from there, so it closed up, you&#8217;re buying it, you&#8217;re feeling good.\u00a0Why did it go up and what happened after that first day? Yeah, I mean,\u00a0I think this\u00a0is\u00a0pretty typical, and we talked about this in our IPO episode, right? Like,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0pretty typical\u00a0for that first day, that first few days, things just to go to rip higher. I mean, it had explosive price action, I think for a\u00a0couple\u00a0reasons.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">One, the hype, right? I mean, we had a fair number of clients saying, &#8220;Hey, Hunter, Judson, can you get me into this thing?&#8221; And\u00a0so,\u00a0I think that\u00a0hype, it\u00a0was reported to be\u00a0four times oversubscribed, which is bananas, and\u00a0we&#8217;ll\u00a0get into that here in a second. I think Musk&#8217;s profile broadly, I mean,\u00a0he&#8217;s\u00a0a billionaire now trillionaire, multi-trillionaire genius.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Wait, wait, wait. When you say four times oversubscribed, does that mean that there was 300 billion in asks?\u00a0Yeah.\u00a0So\u00a0basically,\u00a0what that\u00a0is,\u00a0is the number of shares that were actually out there\u00a0&#8211; Okay, so not of the full 75.\u00a0Correct. Got it.\u00a0Yeah. The number of shares that were out there to be had, there\u00a0were four times as many requests.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And you see, like, you heard some of this stuff in the moment where it&#8217;s like, &#8220;Yeah, I put in a request at Schwab,&#8221; and this happened to our clients too, or Robinhood or wherever else, and I got one share.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0right. One little measly share. And there were some folks out\u00a0there,\u00a0maybe that\u00a0were higher profile investment clients of places that got a little bit more.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But\u00a0yeah, I mean, it was, for many\u00a0investors,\u00a0they\u00a0didn&#8217;t\u00a0get much. And so, I mean, again, I think that the hype plus who Elon is, plus that oversubscription, but then I think the sneaky one, and we mentioned this at the time, is there was limited float, right? So only 5% of outstanding shares\u00a0were even\u00a0traded.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So just the market for those shares was very, very tight and limited, and\u00a0I think that\u00a0shot the price up higher. And there is a concern there, and\u00a0we&#8217;ll\u00a0talk about that here in just a second, listeners. But\u00a0so,\u00a0since then, that really quick post-IPO\u00a0hype,\u00a0things just ratcheted very much higher.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In fact, June 16th was an intra-day high at $225. Okay. So\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0where it hit its high point. Four days later. Four days later. But hey,\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0been as low as $119. And\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0crazy, right? Like up 3% one day, down 7% the next day.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0a classic sort of volatile hype stock.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And again, this is typical post-IPO behavior. The highs are enthusiasm and speculation. The lows are investors taking profit, valuation\u00a0concerns. And then I think macro too, because this is one, even more so than the Mag Seven\u00a0names,\u00a0they have no, like, actual stated financials out there yet.\u00a0So,\u00a0macro can wreak havoc on the stock price, and\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0proven to\u00a0do so\u00a0so\u00a0far.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Okay.\u00a0So,\u00a0as you said,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0high,\u00a0it popped right up to $225 high.\u00a0It pretty quickly came back down to around that $150 number, hung around there for a little bit, and then sort of has been trading somewhere in that $119 to $125 range since.\u00a0So,\u00a0you mentioned it\u00a0earlier,\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0got its first earnings report coming up. Maybe even bigger than that, we have\u00a0share\u00a0locks that are being opened up.\u00a0So,\u00a0what do you expect to see from it?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah, I mean, I think price discovery\u00a0hasn&#8217;t\u00a0even been able to be had yet, because you only have, again, you only have 5% of shares even outstanding to trade, and\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0still dealing with this hype. You have no financial statements out there. I think price\u00a0discovery&#8217;s\u00a0about to happen in the next couple of weeks and presumably,\u00a0listeners,\u00a0we&#8217;ll\u00a0record again toward the end of the year on, on where things stand.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And when I say price discovery, it&#8217;s in a free market when things are out there to be traded and you&#8217;re not dealing with hype and you&#8217;re now dealing with real actual numbers, investors\u00a0are\u00a0going to\u00a0say, &#8220;This is what I&#8217;m willing to pay for this stock.&#8221;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So,\u00a0to your point,\u00a0first\u00a0earnings release will be Q2 earnings dropping on August 4th. I will absolutely have my popcorn ready on that day. It will be the first\u00a0sort of public\u00a0view of their financial statements.\u00a0We&#8217;ll\u00a0see, like, what has Starlink growth been? What has\u00a0CapEx\u00a0spend\u00a0been? Because\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0a lot of what Elon\u00a0stated\u00a0part of the goal of this was to get money to raise funds, the\u00a0$75 billion, to go and continue to build Colossus and their Grok AI and all these\u00a0different types\u00a0of things with\u00a0xAI.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So,\u00a0I think\u00a0that\u00a0will be really interesting to\u00a0see is\u00a0what their\u00a0CapEx\u00a0spend\u00a0is. And then also shortly right after the IPO, they used the stock basically to leverage their acquisition of a company called Cursor, which was already, it was under LOI pre-IPO, but Cursor&#8217;s like a\u00a0vibe coding\u00a0company that they basically wrapped in and got as well.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So,\u00a0we&#8217;ll\u00a0get to see some\u00a0detail\u00a0on that. That will be a fascinating day. That leads to my next popcorn being ready. Two days later, we\u00a0have\u00a0a massive share unlock.\u00a0So,\u00a0on August 6th, we will go from only 5% of shares\u00a0outstanding\u00a0being\u00a0able to be traded to 25%. On one day, there will be a share unlock for the original investors of 20%, which Judson,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0911 million shares.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So,\u00a0when you think about\u00a0this, so\u00a0you&#8217;ve\u00a0got these original investors and you&#8217;ve\u00a0have\u00a0to\u00a0think that some of them will want to take money off the table. Oh,\u00a0yeah.\u00a0Right? No doubt. No doubt.\u00a0So then really probably based on what you see on August 4th would be which direction that drives the price essentially.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Absolutely.\u00a0Right?\u00a0Yeah, and what the language is in the earnings and what the calls look like and so\u00a0you&#8217;ll\u00a0have that unlock, but then the crazy thing, so\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0on August 6th. Then you have 7%\u00a0unlocks\u00a0on August 20th, September 9th, September 24th, October 9th, October 24th\u00a0I mean, you are going to see over- 7% on all those dates. Correct.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Another 50% of\u00a0shares\u00a0hitting\u00a0the market.\u00a0Like, welcome\u00a0to price discovery, right? And then the final ones will be right after Q3 earnings, there\u00a0will be another 28%, and then everything else by December 8th.\u00a0So\u00a0in the next five months, like,\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0going to\u00a0be eating a lot of popcorn, Judson.\u00a0Yeah. We may be talking about this again.\u00a0Yeah. I have a feeling. I would think so.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Now, the question is, so all those shares will\u00a0get\u00a0released on December 8 somewhere in December,\u00a0except\u00a0Elon&#8217;s.\u00a0So,\u00a0he still\u00a0has to\u00a0hold\u00a0for a full year. And of course, he has 49% of the company, so\u00a0there&#8217;s\u00a0still a ton\u00a0remaining. But man, by the end of this year,\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0going to\u00a0pretty much know\u00a0what the stock price is\u00a0going to\u00a0be for a while.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So,\u00a0in light of\u00a0this,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0been interesting. I think taking a step back and looking at\u00a0what&#8217;s\u00a0happened over the last month to month and a half, I\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0think\u00a0anybody&#8217;s\u00a0surprised by it. How\u00a0does\u00a0this color\u00a0the next\u00a0couple\u00a0IPOs that are coming out? Yeah, I mean, I think the next two big ones would be Anthropic and OpenAI, so maybe take them each.\u00a0Anthropic\u2019s\u00a0already filed their S1, so that got filed confidentially in June. And\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0targeting somewhere around October for theirs.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And I think\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0a likely\u00a0October.\u00a0I think some of it has to sort of see what&#8217;s going on with SpaceX as it unlocks for sure.\u00a0They&#8217;re\u00a0targeting somewhere between $1.1 and\u00a0$1.2 trillion\u00a0on\u00a0the numbers, so\u00a0I think that\u00a0probably happens\u00a0before the end of the year.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And then the next one would be OpenAI.\u00a0Now, OpenAI is a really interesting one because obviously Sam Altman&#8217;s dealing with, I mean, he just went through the Elon lawsuit.\u00a0Now Apple is also\u00a0suing\u00a0OpenAI as well.\u00a0So,\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0saying,\u00a0hey,\u00a0they&#8217;ve\u00a0already filed their S1,\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0saying sometime in 2027 because\u00a0they&#8217;re, quote, &#8220;targeting a\u00a0$1 billion\u00a0valuation,&#8221; or are they trying to get through some of this stuff first?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So,\u00a0it&#8217;s a really interesting one on OpenAI, but I think both of those companies&#8217; teams will be looking very intently at what goes on with SpaceX as these things get unlocked to see what happens more broadly and what the market is ready for when it comes to theirs.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">One last thing I think\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0interesting to cover just related to SpaceX, because\u00a0I think this\u00a0is a path that\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0going to\u00a0be interested\u00a0to watch\u00a0for Anthropic and OpenAI as well, is SpaceX is already in\u00a0the queues.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So,\u00a0the\u00a0NASDAQ, it\u00a0was already introduced in\u00a0the NASDAQ. It represents about 1.05% of the NASDAQ right now.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0also in some Russell indexes, but it still\u00a0won&#8217;t\u00a0be in the S&amp;P for at least another 12 months.\u00a0Plus, it\u00a0has\u00a0to\u00a0prove consistent GAAP profitability as well.\u00a0So again, I think as we see what price discovery looks\u00a0like\u00a0and it comes into\u00a0the S&amp;P, that will be an interesting story for these other two stocks.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So,\u00a0a question, if\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0a client of Cain Watters and I invest in our investment platform and\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0talking about this SpaceX stock and\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0looking at these releases. Number one, is there any allocation to SpaceX within our managers right now? And how do these managers look at this as these\u00a0release? Do they set a price target and go, &#8220;Hey if SpaceX hits this number, I think I may buy some&#8221;? Or I mean &#8211; and I know\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0speculating\u00a0here, but how do you think they think about that?\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah,\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0a good question. I mean, I think that &#8211; So first off, is it in any of our actively managed portfolios? No. No is the answer because, again, we believe in buying things that are high quality, known businesses.\u00a0So\u00a0from a price discovery standpoint, we\u00a0have to\u00a0wait for this for\u00a0a very long\u00a0time. I mean, we certainly are not\u00a0going to\u00a0put it in our active portfolios when the S&amp;P\u00a0doesn&#8217;t\u00a0even have it in theirs. Yep.\u00a0Right?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I do think if\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0a growth manager,\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0giving it\u00a0a very long\u00a0time.\u00a0You&#8217;re\u00a0looking through this very intently to say, &#8220;Hey, what do these earnings reports show from a profitability standpoint from how they&#8217;re directing the business?&#8221; I mean, SpaceX is an incredible business.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It has an incredible opportunity to change the world or universe, I guess,\u00a0in\u00a0this perspective. But from a\u00a0manager\u00a0perspective, you also\u00a0have to\u00a0cover your butt.\u00a0You\u00a0can&#8217;t\u00a0see swings of $120 to $225. You just\u00a0can&#8217;t\u00a0see that in your portfolio.\u00a0So,\u00a0I think as a CYA, you\u00a0basically have\u00a0to say, &#8220;Hey, I&#8217;m\u00a0going to\u00a0wait for the market to feel this thing out, and then I might enter in at that point.&#8221; So.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Well,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0a good\u00a0lesson\u00a0and I think that SpaceX\u00a0probably will\u00a0be obviously the one that was talked about the most, the one that was\u00a0hyped\u00a0the most. But\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0a good lesson for\u00a0all of\u00a0our listeners if\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0looking at other IPOs coming out that a lot of them may act in this\u00a0similar way, right?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Absolutely. Yeah, and I think\u00a0we&#8217;ll\u00a0cover some more IPO stuff as we go. We wanted to give everybody an update because it was one of our most listened to episodes in a while. But before we hang up, Judson, I think\u00a0maybe some more\u00a0just broad general market thoughts. The market&#8217;s been a little interesting over the last month.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I want to\u00a0maybe talk\u00a0just\u00a0high level\u00a0and then maybe a couple interesting observations.\u00a0So,\u00a0the first is that\u00a0basically over\u00a0the last month, S&amp;P&#8217;s flat. Nothing.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0still up 9.5% for the year, which is great. The Qs are down 2%.\u00a0Small-cap\u00a0continues\u00a0to rip for the year.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0up 2%, and\u00a0international&#8217;s\u00a0basically flat.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So,\u00a0over the last month,\u00a0there&#8217;s\u00a0so\u00a0much macro, right? I mean,\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0dealing with\u00a0everything&#8217;s\u00a0still going on in Iran and the implications of inflation, which\u00a0we&#8217;ll\u00a0talk about here in just a second. And\u00a0so\u00a0from the macro perspective, the market&#8217;s\u00a0basically gone\u00a0sideways other than\u00a0high quality\u00a0small cap companies.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0still seeing these\u00a0indices up. S&amp;P&#8217;s up 9.5% this year, Qs are up 11%, small\u00a0cap&#8217;s\u00a0up 21%,\u00a0international&#8217;s\u00a0up 7%. It&#8217;s still been a really good year for our clients, but I think that it&#8217;s just like a really interesting market because as we go again, the second half of this year, there&#8217;s so many other things coming that will really\u00a0kind of\u00a0tell the story of where things are going.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah. For those of you who enjoy this type of investment talk, Hunter, one thing that we were talking about earlier today is there is a new letter that you&#8217;ve been developing that&#8217;s about to\u00a0hit for\u00a0our clients that will be coming out in August. Brad and Tectonic and that team does with one of our investment managers on like, &#8220;Hey, what are you seeing?&#8221;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And then\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0also\u00a0going to\u00a0have a really detailed analysis by the Tectonic team on exactly what\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0seeing in the market.\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0excited. I think\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0going to\u00a0give people the opportunity, our\u00a0clients\u00a0the opportunity to deep dive if they want or just\u00a0read\u00a0high level\u00a0like\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0reading the front of a newspaper and\u00a0move\u00a0on.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Well, I think\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0a good opportunity. You just went over some of those returns year to date, and I think that a lot of times you can look at your\u00a0year-to-date\u00a0return and go, &#8220;Oh, it&#8217;s a good year.&#8221; You may not know exactly how and why our managers or our allocations are doing so well for our clients. This gives you a little bit more context.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And like you said, I think\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0great if\u00a0you&#8217;ve\u00a0never been to one of our Annual Meetings and been able to hear directly from one of our\u00a0managers\u00a0you&#8217;ll\u00a0get a lot of great insight directly from them as well. So\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0fantastic. You can look for that sometime in August. And how will our clients receive that?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah,\u00a0it&#8217;ll\u00a0be out there on the client portal. And\u00a0so,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0going to\u00a0be out there for you to read, and then of course you can always follow up with your advisor if you have more questions. But\u00a0it&#8217;ll\u00a0be an opportunity for us to talk through just some interesting things that are out there.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Which,\u00a0before we hang up, I do\u00a0want to\u00a0talk\u00a0three\u00a0just\u00a0kind\u00a0of fascinating things that have happened in the market over the last month or so. The first is IBM.\u00a0So,\u00a0IBM last week\u00a0kind of a\u00a0bad earnings report plus some messaging in there that\u00a0basically people\u00a0were spending more on AI hardware than they were on IBM software.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The stock went down 25% in one day.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0a big\u00a0percent. Yes. Yes, it is. In the grand scheme of things, it was a\u00a0nine-sigma\u00a0event for a 115-year-old company. Nine-sigma, which is staggering from a statistics standpoint. Huge.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0equivalent\u00a0basically to\u00a0Black Monday when the Dow\u00a0went down 23%.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I was like, okay,\u00a0let&#8217;s\u00a0give our listeners some context. Like, what in the scheme\u00a0of like\u00a0the lottery, what is a nine-sigma event? This is what Grok tells me. A nine-sigma event is you, Judson, playing the lottery and winning every week for 480 million years straight. Wow. Yes. Staggering, right? I\u00a0haven&#8217;t\u00a0won\u00a0one week. Imagine that. And IBM stock went down 25%.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But again, I think\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0fascinating. IBM&#8217;s a great company. And it&#8217;s still\u00a0going to\u00a0be there, and I&#8217;m sure it&#8217;ll\u00a0rise\u00a0back up\u00a0over time.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0still paying its dividend yield. None of\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0a problem. Again, it&#8217;s just sort of this\u00a0insight of this\u00a0is why we don&#8217;t buy single positions. This is why we diversify. This is why\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0in these\u00a0different types\u00a0of things, because IBM is a type of company every single person in America would say, &#8220;Yeah, that&#8217;s a good company to buy.&#8221;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So anyway,\u00a0super\u00a0fascinating there. Next one very quickly the 10-year yield, which is the proxy on\u00a0kind of how\u00a030-year mortgage rates are set.\u00a0It\u00a0kind of had hit a high because of all the stuff going on in Iran. It was up to about 4.7%. With the Iran MOU, it drifted down to like 4.5%, 4.4%.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0now back up to 4.63%. So that is a problem for mortgage rates. Mortgage rates now, as of today, are back\u00a0up to\u00a030 years- 30-year fixed at 6.75%.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0been as low as 6.25%. So\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0a problem as we go into the fall.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But Judson,\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0also\u00a0going to\u00a0have story time with Brad upcoming, and\u00a0I think that&#8217;ll\u00a0help inform some of the stuff here, right?\u00a0Absolutely. Because what are we\u00a0going to\u00a0talk\u00a0about on\u00a0that? Hunter, thanks for asking.\u00a0We&#8217;re\u00a0going to\u00a0be talking about the new Fed chair, Kevin Warsh, and what we expect from rates, because as we talked about\u00a0on\u00a0one of our last\u00a0episodes\u00a0the outlook for rate changes has really changed over the last\u00a0couple\u00a0months.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Well,\u00a0yeah, and he made some\u00a0big changes.\u00a0Like, it&#8217;ll\u00a0be great to talk to Brad about it, because he made some\u00a0big changes\u00a0to\u00a0forward\u00a0guidance. So\u00a0yeah, listeners, look for that one upcoming, because again, this stuff&#8217;s crazy with mortgage rates.\u00a0But\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0and the last thing I think is interesting, Judson, is inflation, which we\u00a0kind of briefly\u00a0mentioned in a scatter shooting a little while ago, but CPI for June was 3.5, which was\u00a0actually down\u00a0from May. For the first time in a bit.\u00a0Yeah.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Core CPI also down. PCE\u00a0won&#8217;t\u00a0release\u00a0until the end of next week, which is\u00a0the Fed&#8217;s\u00a0sort of preferred\u00a0one. But man, this is an oil story, right?\u00a0Yeah, 100%. Like, CPI is going where oil goes, and so &#8211; And\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0back up.\u00a0Yeah.\u00a0Yeah, we might get some of that in story time with Brad, but this Iran stuff is problematic for inflation, for sure.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah, even with the reduction,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0not where we want it to be, and I think\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0the storyline that we&#8217;ve\u00a0have\u00a0to\u00a0talk about we\u00a0need that\u00a0to go down.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0right.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Well, before you hang us up, Judson, man,\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0got an incredible fall coming.\u00a0We&#8217;re\u00a0wrapping up the summer here shortly.
