Yep.\u00a0We&#8217;ll\u00a0be digging into overhead, insurance mix, profitability, and performance trends for a set of our pediatric practices.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And on top of that,\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0got\u00a0a guest joining us who really loves kids.\u00a0Let&#8217;s\u00a0go.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Well, Judson, we are back with our eighth annual pediatric dental comparison report.\u00a0So\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0basically turning\u00a0the age that is\u00a0appropriate for\u00a0dentistry. That is correct.\u00a0Yeah. And today, as we said in the intro, you probably already\u00a0know who it\u00a0is\u00a0but we have our planner who loves kids the most, Keith Klein.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Thank you for having me. And to be clear, the kids I love the most are Lindy and Hudson. Oh, yes. My kids. Oh,\u00a0okay.\u00a0Yeah.\u00a0Got\u00a0it. But, but\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0not even kids anymore.\u00a0They&#8217;re\u00a0like- solidly teenagers,\u00a017,\u00a0we\u00a0got\u00a0prom on Saturday.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0like,\u00a0yeah,\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0barely even\u00a0qualifies\u00a0as a kid.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0right.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But you have been involved in the pediatric report since its\u00a0inception.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I have. And have\u00a0a quite\u00a0a\u00a0bit of\u00a0pediatric dental practices\u00a0as\u00a0your clients.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0right.\u00a0I have, probably about 30 different 30 different pediatric practices that all across the country.\u00a0So\u00a0definitely see\u00a0a lot of this and a lot of the, a lot of the information that goes into this report\u00a0is,\u00a0from a lot of my clients.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So,\u00a0definitely in\u00a0tune to\u00a0what&#8217;s\u00a0going on in pediatrics. Yeah, I think, and\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0all been here near almost 20 years. Some of us have been here longer, Judson. I have. But I mean, for those listeners that are like, &#8220;I don&#8217;t have a pediatric dental\u00a0practice,\u00a0I don&#8217;t need to listen to this,&#8221; the answer is you still should.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And the reason\u00a0is like\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0seen all these periods of time, guys, over the years where times have been tough, right? I mean, COVID, GFC. In our career here,\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0seen all of these. Pediatric practices\u00a0sort of make&#8230; They just thrive right through it. I mean thrive or they\u00a0just, they\u00a0navigate those choppy waters.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I mean, I think\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0for a\u00a0couple\u00a0reasons. One,\u00a0people always prioritize\u00a0their kids, right? I mean, always. Hundred percent. We all have kids. I mean, goodness\u00a0gracious, what do we have eight between us?\u00a0We&#8217;re\u00a0always\u00a0going to\u00a0prioritize our kids. I mean, that&#8217;s a,\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0a number\u00a0one\u00a0reason why. So even as things do\u00a0maybe get\u00a0a little tougher in the\u00a0economy\u00a0I oftentimes look at a pediatric practice and say like, &#8220;Man, that&#8217;s a really good snapshot of what&#8217;s going on in the real economy right there.&#8221;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah.\u00a0Couldn&#8217;t\u00a0agree with you more.\u00a0I mean, pediatrics is not like the rocket ship that you see in some other practices where they can double and things like that, but it is definitely just like that steady investment return.\u00a0You&#8217;re going to grow 3% to 5% per year and, there&#8217;s very little like when the economy gets bad that you don&#8217;t really see it in a pediatric practice like you do some other practices that are more elective,\u00a0&#8217;cause\u00a0people are going to take care of their kids.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Yeah, and\u00a0we&#8217;ll\u00a0talk\u00a0some of the\u00a0the\u00a0payer mix stuff, but a lot of\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0because of things like Medicaid and insurance. I think the second reason, Judson, is like a super important reason to sort of tune in is\u00a0that like\u00a0pediatrics really is like the foundation of dentistry, right?\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0really,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0getting these families used to what does, what is dentistry in my life?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Getting kids used to going to the dentist, getting them comfortable with\u00a0different types\u00a0of\u00a0procedures\u00a0and I think because of that,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0an incredibly important business for the economy, but then also for dentistry as well. Yeah, I agree, and the last thing I&#8217;d say on why to continue to listen is because when we talk about these practices and why they may have thrived in 2025- I think there&#8217;s clear ways that you can take that into other businesses, especially other dental businesses and use those same things to help your own practice.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0right. Okay. Keith, as one of the leaders on the team here, you want to give everybody sort of just a high-level\u00a0overview of\u00a0kind\u00a0of what the data told us from 2025?\u00a0Yeah.\u00a0Yeah, so the data for 2025 compared to 2024, we\u00a0saw,\u00a0a slight\u00a0increase in,\u00a0in production. It was up about 5.5% compared to last year.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">However, the collections were\u00a0up\u00a011%. So, something to think about there is definitely also saw, and we&#8217;ll get to this later in the report, but the Medicaid percentage was down, so less Medicaid being in that payer mix, I think led to higher collection increase than we even saw on the production side.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah. But even with Medicaid being down,\u00a0production&#8217;s\u00a0still up overall.\u00a0Yeah.\u00a0So\u00a0I mean, it did say, it did show that our patients were still coming in. It just was a different type of patient- Right &#8230; which\u00a0probably led\u00a0to better collections.\u00a0Yeah. And, and you can see that, too, because the per patient amount went from, like, $300 last year, close to $300 per patient visit to, like, $337, I think $336 this year.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0definitely seeing, pediatric dentists getting more per patient in the door compared to what\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0been historically.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So, and then what about on the broad strokes on the overhead side of things as far as expense goes?\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah, so overhead, the direct costs were all pretty steady and pretty in line with last year, but we did see fixed costs jump up about a percent or two.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So really, even with the growth, the overhead percentage was about 51% for 2025 compared to about 50% the year before. So saw 1%.\u00a0So\u00a0income stayed about the same.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So\u00a0one thing you may want to do is go ahead and download this report if you\u00a0haven&#8217;t\u00a0already. So now that you have this downloaded, folks Judson, where do you want to start? You want to start on this front page?\u00a0I think we\u00a0start with the main page.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We talked a little bit, or Keith talked a little bit about where we fell for production and collections and, in\u00a0general\u00a0overhead too. One of the things\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0interesting\u00a0in\u00a0this is salaries went down as a percentage of collections.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So\u00a0we went from 23%, a little over 23% to a little over 22%. My suspicion is that\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0not actually paying less than the prior year, and\u00a0we&#8217;ll\u00a0talk a little bit about wages later, but\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0a function of collections. Would you agree? I totally agree.\u00a0I think wages\u00a0stayed, normal COLA type adjustments on the wage side, but for sure the 11% increase in collections has more to do with that than anything.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah, and\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0probably&#8211; We can see that too because marketing dollars as a percentage went up, right? So, I mean, again, I think that&#8217;s a,\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0a great example\u00a0of,\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0probably spending\u00a0more\u00a0there\u00a0and\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0getting more collections, and\u00a0yet\u00a0 the\u00a0percentage is going higher as well. So\u00a0that&#8217;ll\u00a0be an interesting topic that we can\u00a0talk through\u00a0about\u00a0maybe what the implications were of that.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But largely, like\u00a0you said, everything else stayed\u00a0pretty similar\u00a0other than, the fixed costs rising.\u00a0But I mean, again, I think that&#8217;s an inflationary thing that we&#8217;ve seen, Judson, across all of our practices.\u00a0Yeah, and I think that it&#8217;s a good point though that, when you look at the fixed cost of your pro- Well, I guess the point is, is that you can ignore, even though we lump a lot of expenses into that on your fixed costs, it&#8217;s another reminder just as we do with our clients every year, to go through and compare your fixed cost year to year.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Because if we saw that, like in our pediatric\u00a0practices, that\u00a0our fixed costs went up by 2%. So again,\u00a0let&#8217;s\u00a0think about this. Our average pediatric practice collected $3 million. Fixed costs went up 2%, so\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0a $60,000 swing. If\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0experiencing increased fixed\u00a0cost, if nothing else, you should know where that increase is.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Absolutely.\u00a0Yeah, and\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0seeing that\u00a0increase,\u00a0across the board.\u00a0There&#8217;s\u00a0been- there\u00a0wasn&#8217;t\u00a0any consistency in like what fixed costs we saw go up, so\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0seeing it some in marketing that Hunter alluded to earlier. Technology and computer expenses are always rising.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0So there, there have been a few\u00a0different categories\u00a0that are\u00a0lead contributing to that increase.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Credit card fees too as well, if\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0seeing more\u00a0fee\u00a0for service, and\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0something that, you need to check out every few years because those things can creep on you significantly.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Absolutely. Hate those pediatric creeping. Totally.\u00a0Yeah.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Okay,\u00a0let&#8217;s\u00a0go to production, y&#8217;all, because this is the first big page and, and Keith&#8217;s already\u00a0kind of mentioned\u00a0this that production did go up 5%, 5.5%, man, almost 6%. So that&#8217;s production by provider and overall production.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And I think, guys, we need to just double-click on this very quickly because you said, Keith, like pediatric practices tend not to be like\u00a0high flyers\u00a0where you have these huge 10%, 12% years. To see production up that much,\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0almost double what we would normally see production.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0a big number.\u00a0Yeah.\u00a0Yeah, the production by provider, I mean, it jumped, almost $100,000 year over year, and that&#8217;s,\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0a lot of kids\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0going to have to see and treat to do $100,000 more in a, in a single year.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So\u00a0to see that\u00a0go\u00a0to almost $1.8 million\u00a0is\u00a0was a big jump. Yeah, and I think again\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0already referenced\u00a0this\u00a0but we wanted to double-click on this as well, is that production per patient visit.\u00a0So\u00a0it went from about $305 to about $336, which is an 11% increase, and I think\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0where a lot of that collection increase is coming as well.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Keith, like what, what is that? I mean, because\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0basically\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0like\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0still seeing the same number of patients,\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0just getting a whole lot more out of\u00a0those patient.\u00a0Like what\u00a0are you hearing from your clients, seeing from your clients on why?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah, I mean, I think it&#8217;s those add-on procedures that you&#8217;re asking for from the patient, and sealants and fluorides and the things that maybe aren&#8217;t always covered under insurance that historically, the front desk maybe or the dental assistant or the doctor hasn&#8217;t done a good job of asking for it.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It does seem like\u00a0more and more\u00a0of that is being done\u00a0because,\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0going to just increase the amount of production that\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0going to do\u00a0in\u00a0that visit, and while that kid&#8217;s in the chair, might as well get it done.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">One of the numbers I\u00a0like on\u00a0here is the production per chair, right? We\u00a0do production\u00a0by provider and\u00a0it&#8217;s in\u00a0here as well. We do production by provider in both this and the ortho report and, and what I mentioned on the ortho report is this is a great number to\u00a0kind of track because it can give you an indication of maybe when you need to start thinking about, adding another provider.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I love the production per chair number\u00a0because,\u00a0this can give you a real\u00a0indication\u00a0on when you may really be running out of space instead of just being more efficient per chair, right?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Correct.\u00a0Yeah. And you can see in the data, like between the bigger practices, the bigger practices being the ones over $1.65 million compared to like the smaller practices under $1.65 million, there&#8217;s\u00a0a huge discrepancy in the production per chair.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0likely because\u00a0some of the practices are in the smaller category are still just maturing,\u00a0maybe\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0have full\u00a0utilization\u00a0of their chairs, but the bigger practices do seem to be fully\u00a0utilizing\u00a0their chair space.\u00a0So\u00a0if\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0a smaller practice,\u00a0kind of give you a goal to\u00a0kind of set for your practice, like, &#8220;Hey, we can almost double our production per chair by getting more patients in and, and, doing things a little bit more efficiently.&#8221;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So,\u00a0production\u00a0we saw was up 5.5%. Production per patient visit was up almost 11%, and collections were up almost 11% as well. And\u00a0so\u00a0I think\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0not just that\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0getting more out of that individual patient\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0sitting there, but\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0also collecting more, and\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0probably also\u00a0a payer mix thing, right?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So\u00a0we talk about how much is being generated and in a lot of dental practices\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0just\u00a0going to\u00a0be insurance and then fee for service, but then in pediatrics you also bring in this Medicaid piece as well. And we saw that Medicaid\u00a0piece\u00a0decrease\u00a0slightly, which means that if we saw the same number of patients, we\u00a0had\u00a0more profitable patients sitting in the chair.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Correct? Correct.\u00a0Yeah. And in every\u00a0consult\u00a0I have with pediatric dentists that have the more mature practice,\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0definitely talking\u00a0about, what it would take to, to move out of network. Now, some are doing it, some\u00a0aren&#8217;t, and we\u00a0didn&#8217;t\u00a0really see a whole lot of movement in, on the insurance side on payer mix.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We did see the Medicaid percentage go\u00a0down\u00a0and that&#8217;s definitely leading to that increased collection on the same level of production. And I think\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0going to\u00a0continue inside pediatrics to\u00a0kind\u00a0of\u00a0trend in that direction where\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0going to\u00a0see\u00a0more and more\u00a0of these busier practices start to go out of network.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah, and if reimbursement rates continue to tick up, I mean, there have been some step-ups from various states, both in Medicaid and then of course insurance as well, which ought to help on the collection side, even though production might not jump, right?\u00a0Yeah, absolutely.\u00a0Yeah. The, some states have\u00a0actually increased\u00a0their Medicaid reimbursements in the last year.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Not all states\u00a0unfortunately, but, but some states are, have been trending in the right direction on that.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And hopefully those other states, follow a little bit and so you can pick up a couple more as providers.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The\u00a0next page\u00a0we&#8217;ll\u00a0turn to talks about demographics, and\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0talked quite a bit about this, about how we saw a slight decrease in Medicaid and an increase in fee-for-service and other insurance. I think that\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0a great thing\u00a0to compare your practice to help understand your demographics compared to what our averages are.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But the one thing I did\u00a0want to\u00a0talk a little bit about that we did see a really\u00a0large increase\u00a0on\u00a0was the\u00a0hospital affiliation. And Keith, when you see that type of increase in hospital affiliation, what does it mean to you, and how could that\u00a0affected\u00a0the broader numbers?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah.\u00a0So\u00a0a hospital piece, those are&#8211; those GA cases are a really big piece of pediatrics, right?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8216;Cause\u00a0these are kids that\u00a0have,\u00a0a lot of work that\u00a0are\u00a0needed, and\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0going to\u00a0have to go to a hospital or surgery center to have it done.\u00a0And those are generally speaking mostly, not always, but a high percentage of those are Medicaid patients.\u00a0So\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0really seeing, like when\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0doing those cases,\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0going to\u00a0have a very productive day as a pediatric dentist when you go to the hospital and see three to five kids.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Those are\u00a0going to\u00a0be high, high productive, high collection days for your office.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Okay, so\u00a0let&#8217;s\u00a0move on to payroll, Keith. What are some of the takeaways you saw\u00a0on\u00a0the payroll category?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Yeah, so for your front desk assistants, hygienists, there\u00a0wasn&#8217;t\u00a0really a whole lot of movement here. Pretty consistent year over year, which again feeds back to, like, what we were saying on that first page where we see 11%\u00a0collections\u00a0increase and the percentage of overall payroll go down.\u00a0Essentially the\u00a0collections\u00a0is\u00a0driving ,\u00a0that percentage down, not lower pay.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Yeah, the one big movement you saw on this report this year was quite\u00a0a big increase\u00a0in the associate\u00a0doctor\u00a0daily. So, what could have led to that\u00a0big of a\u00a0jump? We have a 10% increase,\u00a0so,\u00a0$140 basically.\u00a0Yeah, $150.\u00a0Yeah, and we were just talking about how production by provider, the\u00a0pediatric\u00a0were just busier.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">They&#8217;re\u00a0up almost 1.8%\u00a0production\u00a0by provider.\u00a0So\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0just looking at them being busier\u00a0and,\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0earning more. So\u00a0typically\u00a0if unless I&#8217;m wrong, most pediatric associates are probably\u00a0going to\u00a0have some sort of daily minimum, but then they&#8217;re going to get a &#8211; they&#8217;re\u00a0going to\u00a0be working\u00a0off of\u00a0production, right?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah, adjusted production or collections,\u00a0yeah.\u00a0So\u00a0what do you say, what would, like, an average pediatric associate start for as a daily\u00a0base?\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What they would start at as a daily\u00a0base\u00a0would\u00a0probably be\u00a0between $1,000\u00a0maybe up\u00a0to $1,200\u00a0depending upon the market per day.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Okay, so then clearly what we saw from last year to this year\u00a0is\u00a0our associates may have just been more productive.\u00a0Yeah. And\u00a0so\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0getting\u00a0a higher\u00a0pay.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah, absolutely. I think\u00a0they,\u00a0you can see that in the numbers. They have been more productive and, and I\u00a0think\u00a0it&#8217;s just &#8211; definitely leading to higher compensation for them.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Good job, associates. Okay, so talking about some other elements of overhead. Really there&#8217;s not\u00a0a,\u00a0there\u00a0weren&#8217;t\u00a0huge shifts necessarily in things like supplies\u00a0or,\u00a0net profit other than fixed costs and things like that. I think the one we wanted to spend a little bit of time on, Judson, is marketing, right?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Because that one did move quite a bit higher, which typically in a pediatric\u00a0practice\u00a0there&#8217;s\u00a0not a ton of marketing per se, especially because of insurance and Medicaid.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0like the core, like- Brand type marketing, maybe, connecting\u00a0with various schools, but not near what we would see\u00a0maybe in\u00a0some other, types of practices.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But this is a big move, over 20% increase year over year on just the marketing spend. Now, what I think is interesting is that the number of patients seen\u00a0didn&#8217;t\u00a0necessarily rise that much, right? But I think we would still say there was some success in these marketing numbers, right, Judson?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah, absolutely. I mean, and the thing I look at, and, again, this is something that we look at for our orthodontists as well, is the new\u00a0patient\u00a0acquisition cost, right? In 2025 our pediatric practices spent about $32.50 per new patient, right? And\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0an increase from about $30 last year.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But then if we go back to, one of the things we very first talked about, the\u00a0production per patient visit went up from, $303 to what was it? $336, right?\u00a0So\u00a0you paid to\u00a0acquire\u00a0that patient, couple dollars more, but then you produced $30 more in the chair.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0a pretty good\u00a0ROI.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Oh, absolutely.\u00a0Yeah. Because, your marketing dollars, I think\u00a0there&#8217;s\u00a0a\u00a0perception\u00a0out there that\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0only\u00a0going to\u00a0lead to new patients, but\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0also marketing to existing patients, wallet share,\u00a0all of\u00a0those\u00a0concepts\u00a0factor into what your marketing spend is really bringing into your practice.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And if you&#8217;re continuing to market and, maybe mom is seeing, it&#8217;s definitely never dad, mom&#8217;s seeing some new procedure or something else you&#8217;re adding to your practice or like, &#8220;Hey, be sure to talk to us about sealants,&#8221; or, &#8220;Be sure to talk to us about, fluoride treatments for the kids,&#8221; or, &#8220;Talk to us about a frenectomy.&#8221;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Whatever it is, like, then maybe there&#8217;s just more wallet share coming from mom. Again, never dad.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah, and\u00a0I think that those\u00a0are the things I\u00a0think that\u00a0when you think about marketing should be included, right? I\u00a0mean,\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0the unique thing is I think marketing can\u00a0actually set\u00a0you apart\u00a0somewhat as\u00a0a pediatric practice because so many\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0do it.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So if you have those procedures that are maybe a little bit more unique to your practice and\/or if you want to encourage some of those other things that I think are important for kiddos, as do many dentists obviously, but are maybe not covered by insurance, that&#8217;s a great way to accomplish it is marketing.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And I mean, Judson, we talk about all the time, like the marketing spend\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0might, might be required by other types of dental practices, $30 a patient just\u00a0isn&#8217;t\u00a0that much. No,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0not. And\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0an opportunity for pediatric dentists to really grab more of that market share, I think.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah, and I think\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0important whether, you know- Again, I think that, whether\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0trying to get specifically more non-Medicaid patients or whether\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0just trying to grow any type of patient overall, you\u00a0can&#8217;t\u00a0ignore marketing, okay?\u00a0It, it&#8217;s\u00a0not like it was 20 years ago where you&#8217;re probably going to get all of your patients from that.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And Keith made a great point that you are marketing&#8230; When you spend marketing dollars, if\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0doing it effectively,\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0marketing to, people that\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0know your name, people that have heard your name, people that are already inside your practice, everybody out there,\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0marketing to.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And honestly, in today&#8217;s digital age, you\u00a0can&#8217;t not\u00a0be doing some of the marketing\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0out there.\u00a0So\u00a0we\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0want to discourage marketing at all.\u00a0In fact, we want all of our clients to be effectively marketing.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah. I mean, if\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0not marketing, if\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0not doing anything, I mean, you&#8217;re slowly\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0slowly dying, right?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Like, you have to be doing some level of marketing to keep yourself on track.\u00a0Just, I mean, again, look at the fixed costs, all these other things. Like, if\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0not marketing,\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0going to\u00a0be,\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0going to\u00a0be hurting eventually.\u00a0So\u00a0it, it is an important part of the practice.\u00a0Yeah.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Tons of really great data for geeks like us inside this report, so make sure to go download it again at cainwatters.com\/pcr.\u00a0Just to\u00a0kind of wrap up maybe before we close, I mean, there&#8217;s some really good stuff at the end of the report maybe some more of the soft skill things.\u00a0And it was great to see, guys, that in 2024 only 46% of our\u00a0respondents\u00a0reported growth, and 21% experienced a decline.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">That jumped to 59% saying there was\u00a0growth\u00a0which is fantastic. And very few were reporting any decline.\u00a0So\u00a0it was really a good year overall for our pediatric practices, and\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0seen that also heading into 2026. So far for the first four months or so has been\u00a0very positive\u00a0overall.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yeah. I mean,\u00a0I think the responses\u00a0show us that the dentists that filled out the survey, thank you\u00a0by the way\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0optimistic about\u00a0what&#8217;s\u00a0happening in their\u00a0practices by and large. There\u00a0was\u00a0very few that were,\u00a0kind of more\u00a0negative.\u00a0So\u00a0I think\u00a0there&#8217;s\u00a0a lot of good things happening out\u00a0there in,\u00a0in pediatric dentistry right now.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0All right, Keith, one last question that our pediatric doctors definitely want to hear.\u00a0Do you believe that children\u00a0are\u00a0the future?
